Description

There is a warm trick to this one: the faux silk drum shade is antique gold on the outside and ruby within, so the light spilling down carries a faint rose cast. It measures 50cm across, hangs from an antique brass suspension and takes an E27 lamp. A frosted acrylic diffuser with antique brass detail closes the underside, so you look up at soft light rather than a bare lamp. The drop adjusts across a wide span, short enough for a modest ceiling and long enough to fall well down over a table.

This is the pendant we reach for over a dining table, where the closed underside keeps things comfortable for anyone sitting beneath it. It works equally well as the main light in a bedroom or sitting room, and in a stairwell or tall hallway the long drop earns its keep. We would fit a warm white LED GLS lamp here; 20W is the ceiling, and rather less than that will do the job. Dimming is possible where you pair a dimmable lamp with a matching dimmer, though neither is supplied with the light. Keep it to dry rooms: hallways and bedrooms yes, shower rooms no.

The shade is layered faux silk, gold facing the room and ruby facing in, and the metalwork carries an antique brass finish that reads warm rather than bright. Cleaning asks little: a soft brush or a dry lint-free cloth over the fabric, and the same cloth over the acrylic to keep it clear, with the power off first. It carries a one year warranty.
