Description

A drum shade in taupe faux silk, lined in halo gold so the light takes on a warm cast as it falls, hung from satin nickel suspension with a matching ceiling cup. At 30cm across the shade is generous without being heavy in a small room, and the fabric softens the lamp behind it. It is a quiet shape rather than a loud one, and we reach for it where a hanging light needs to sit in a scheme without taking it over.

The drop can be set anywhere up to 3.3m, so it suits a spot over a kitchen island, a bedside table, or a stairwell where a shorter fitting would look lost. It takes an E27 lamp in the GLS shape, rated to 20W, which in LED is ample for a bedroom or a small dining table. We would choose a warm white lamp here so the gold lining has something to work with. Dimming is possible with a suitable lamp and a compatible dimmer, neither of which comes with the fitting. Dry indoor rooms are its place; a bathroom is not.

The metalwork is finished in satin nickel, a soft grey sheen that sits happily with brushed taps and handles, and the faux silk gives the shade a gentle lustre rather than a shine. Keep water off the fabric: a soft brush, or a vacuum nozzle held just clear of the surface, deals with dust, and the nickel wants nothing more than a dry cloth. It carries a one year warranty.
