Description

A single drop on a slim antique brass suspension, topped with a drum shade in gold foil over a white laminate lining. The shade is 30cm across and deep enough to read as a proper shade rather than a small accent, and the foil surface gives a warm, faintly mottled shine once the lamp is on, while the pale interior keeps the light coming down clean and even. It takes a single E27 lamp, and we would choose an LED GLS for it.

The suspension can be set short or run out to 3.3m, which is why we reach for this one over a table or an island where the height has to be judged by eye, and why it works in a hallway or above a stairwell with a tall ceiling. It suits a bedside too, hung close in place of a lamp on the table. Dimming is possible if you pair a compatible lamp with a compatible dimmer, though neither comes with it. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a bathroom or an open porch asks for something sealed.

The metalwork carries the antique brass finish, warmed and softened rather than bright, and the shade is a laminate panel with the gold foil applied to the outer face. A surface like this prefers a light touch, so dust it with a dry cloth or a soft brush and keep polishes and damp cloths away from the foil. Take the shade off its holder if you want to reach the inside. The lamp is rated to 20W at most, which an LED meets easily, and the fitting carries a one year warranty.
