Description

Five E27 lampholders sit together on an antique brass frame, all of them tucked under one broad shade rather than dressed individually. It hangs from a single point, so the light gathers instead of scattering. The shade measures 45cm across and is faux silk, taupe on the outside with a halo gold lining that warms the light as it falls. From below you see the gold; from across the room you read the taupe and the brass.

We reach for a multi-lamp pendant like this where a room wants a single clear centre of light rather than several small ones: over a dining table, in a wide hallway, or in a bedroom with height to spare. The hanging length adjusts across a long span, so it can sit low over a table or be lifted for a busier through route. Each lamp takes up to 20W, and with suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer the light can be brought down for the evening. We would fit warm white LED GLS lamps here.

The frame is finished in antique brass, a slightly softened gold with depth to it rather than a bright plate. It suits rooms where warm metal already appears in door furniture or picture frames. Keep the shade dry and lift dust from the fabric with a soft brush or the low setting on a vacuum; the brass wants nothing more than an occasional buff with a dry cloth. It carries a one year warranty. Antique brass runs through the wider range, including a linear pendant and a small semi-flush fitting, if you are matching fittings across adjoining rooms.
