Description

Three E27 lamps sit inside a single wide drum shade, wrapped in silver leaf over a white laminate lining, and the light they give is softened by a frosted acrylic diffuser across the base. The shade measures 40cm across, broad enough to read as a proper fitting above a table without crowding the room around it. Chrome shows in the polished suspension and the ceiling plate, and the drop can be set short or long to suit the ceiling it hangs from. The shape is calm rather than busy, and the diffuser gives it a soft, even face when lit.

We would hang this over a dining table or a kitchen island, where the diffuser keeps glare off plates and glassware and the lamps together cover the whole surface. It also works well above a wide landing or at the head of a stairwell, given how far the drop extends. With suitable dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer, the level can be taken down for evenings, and each holder accepts up to 20W, which is generous once you are working in LED. It needs an earthed supply, and it belongs in dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms or covered porches.

The metalwork is finished in polished chrome, the shade in silver leaf with a white laminate inner face, and the diffuser panel is acrylic. Dust the chrome with a dry cloth and lift any marks with a barely damp one, working only when the power is off and the lamps have gone cold; keep polishes and sprays off the acrylic, which marks more readily than metal. It carries a one year warranty.
