Three drum shades hang in a row from a slim satin nickel bar, each 30cm wide in dual faux silk. The outer face is midnight black, lined in green olive, so the shades read as dark and quiet from across the room while the inside brings a little warmth to the light below. The bar holds the trio in a straight line rather than a cluster, which suits anything long and narrow underneath it. Lit photographs of this fitting render the ceiling canopy warmer than the satin nickel supplied.

It is the sort of fitting we reach for over a dining table, a kitchen island or a long console in a hallway. It spreads light along its length rather than pooling it in one spot, which helps where a single pendant leaves the ends of a table dim. The suspension can be shortened or let down, so it settles under a lower ceiling and still has plenty in reserve for a tall room. Each holder takes an E27, and LED GLS lamps of up to 20W are the sensible choice; with the right lamps and a compatible dimmer on the circuit, the light can be taken down for evening meals.

The metalwork is finished in satin nickel, a soft sheen that keeps fingerprints and hard reflections in check, and the shades are faux silk over a drum frame. Use a dry brush or the soft attachment of a vacuum on the fabric, and wipe the nickel with a barely damp cloth only when it needs it, never a spray cleaner. It carries a one year warranty. How far down does it hang?

The drop adjusts from 405mm at its shortest to 3125mm at full extension, so it can be set close under a standard ceiling or dropped a long way in a stairwell or a room with a high ceiling.

How long is the bar?

The fitting measures 1190mm end to end, with each shade 300mm across and 170mm deep, so allow for a table or island long enough to sit comfortably beneath it.

Which lamps should I use?

Three E27 lamps are needed, with LED GLS (A60) recommended, rated at no more than 20W each. Lamps are supplied separately.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer on the circuit. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

How do I clean the faux silk shades?

Dust them gently with a soft brush or a vacuum on its lowest setting. Keep water and cleaning sprays away from the fabric, as faux silk marks easily when wet.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and belongs in dry rooms such as dining rooms, kitchens, hallways and bedrooms.
