Description

A gold leaf shade 50cm across hangs beneath antique brass, with three E27 lampholders set inside it and a white laminate lining to send the light downward. The proportions are broad and shallow rather than tall, so the light spreads across a table or a floor as a wide band instead of a narrow pool. The antique brass has the softened, slightly darkened warmth of older metal rather than a bright polish, and it sits comfortably against the gold of the shade. The suspension is adjustable, so it can hang close under the ceiling or well down into the room.

We would put this over a dining table first, where the width covers a round top or the middle of a rectangular one, and it reads just as well in a hall with height to spare or above a stairwell landing. It takes GLS A60 lamps of up to 20W each, and we would fit LED here for the sake of running costs. Dimming is possible where the lamps and the dimmer are chosen to suit each other; neither comes with the light.

The metalwork is finished in antique brass throughout, and the shade pairs a gold leaf outer face with a white laminate inner. For upkeep, take a soft dry brush over the shade rather than anything damp, and pass a clean cloth lightly across the brass so the finish keeps its depth. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Baymont range runs to polished chrome, satin nickel, white and satin black, and to linear pendants, semi flush fixtures and flush ceiling fixtures if you want the same family in another part of the house.
