Description

The Basel is a 310mm outdoor wall lantern with a matt black metal frame and a cylindrical clear glass surround, holding a single E27 bulb (sold separately). The IP54 rating protects the electrical components against dust ingress and splashing water from any direction, making the fitting suitable for UK exterior walls including porches, pathways, and covered patio areas.

The clear glass surround exposes the bulb fully, so the Basel works best with decorative filament-style LED bulbs or clear glass LED candles where the bulb itself becomes part of the design. The horizontal black metal bands across the glass act as mounting points for the glass cylinder and add visual structure to the lantern when viewed from the side. The back plate mounts directly to standard UK masonry fixings, with the electrical connection made inside the mounting box.

The 120mm projection from the wall and the 210mm width make the Basel compact enough for narrow passages and gate posts, while the 310mm height gives sufficient presence to flank a front door or illuminate a side entrance. What bulb should I use?

The Basel takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Because the clear glass surround exposes the bulb fully, a decorative filament LED or clear glass LED bulb between 4-8W and 2700K works well. Avoid frosted or opaque bulbs unless you want a plain white light source visible in the lantern.

Can it be used with a dimmer switch?

Yes, if you fit a dimmable E27 LED bulb. The fitting itself is dimmer-compatible, but the bulb must also be rated as dimmable for the dimmer to function correctly.

How is the glass cleaned?

The glass cylinder can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth and a small amount of glass cleaner. The horizontal black bands can be cleaned with the same cloth. Turn off the power and allow the bulb to cool before cleaning.
