Description

Antique brass metalwork carries a compact faux silk shade here, nude beige on the outside with a paler moonlight lining that warms the light as it passes through. At 12cm across, the shade is deliberately modest, nearer in scale to a table lamp shade than the broad shades often hung on walls. A rocker switch sits on the fitting, so it works independently of the room lighting, and it takes an E14 candle lamp.

We reach for this where a light needs to be within arm's reach and space is tight: either side of a bed, along a narrow hallway, beside a reading chair, or in an alcove that would rather not lose the shelf. The switch on the body earns its keep at a bedside, when the room switch is by the door and you are not. Its projection is short, so it stays close to the wall and will not catch a shoulder in a passageway. Dimming is possible where you choose dimmable lamps.

The finish is a warmer, slightly aged brass that sits happily with older woodwork and with brushed metals. The shade is a dual faux silk, holding its shape and its colour, and it wants little more than a soft brush over the fabric now and then; keep water off it, and let the lamp cool before you handle anything. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included, and we would put a warm white LED candle lamp in here. A matched pair either side of a bed reads as intentional, though one on its own above a chair does the job just as well.
