Description

This is a compact wall light with a faux silk shade in ivory pearl, lined in white laminate so the light falls clean and warm as it drops. The frame and backplate are finished in matt black, which keeps the outline crisp against a pale wall and stops the fitting looking bulky. The shade measures 12cm across, so it sits close and tidy rather than pushing out into the room. A rocker switch on the body means it can be worked where it sits, with no need to cross the room to a wall switch.

We reach for this where a table lamp would take up space that simply is not there: beside a bed, along a narrow hallway, at the side of a reading chair, or in a guest room where a soft pool of light is plenty. It takes an E14 candle lamp of up to 20W, and it will dim if you fit a dimmable lamp and pair it with a compatible dimmer. Fitted either side of a bed head, they read neatly and keep bedside tables clear. It wants an earthed supply and belongs in dry indoor rooms, well away from splashes and steam.

The shade is fabric over a laminate lining, so treat it gently: a soft brush or a low-suction vacuum nozzle lifts dust without dragging the weave, and a barely damp cloth will take a mark if you let it dry fully afterwards. The matt black metalwork asks for nothing more than a dry wipe, as polishes and sprays will dull the sheen. Always switch off at the wall and let the lamp cool before you handle the shade.
