Description

The shade here is the quiet part: a slim white faux silk drum, 12cm across, sitting above a plain arm and backplate in satin nickel. The metalwork has a soft, low sheen rather than a mirror shine, so it reads as warm rather than cold against pale walls. A rocker switch is built into the fitting itself, which means the light can be turned on and off where you stand instead of from a wall switch across the room. It takes a single E14 candle lamp, and an LED candle is what we would put in it.

This is a light for the spots where a table lamp would take up room you do not have. We reach for it beside a bed, one either side of the headboard, with the switch to hand for late reading. It also works well flanking a mirror, in a small guest room, along a narrow landing, or beside an armchair in a corner that needs its own pool of light rather than more from the ceiling. The projection is modest, so it stays clear of a passing shoulder. With a dimmable candle lamp fitted, it will dim on a compatible circuit.

The frame is metal, finished in satin nickel, and the shade is a white faux silk with a white laminate lining that keeps the light clean and bright as it leaves the drum. Dust the shade with a soft brush, working around it in one direction, and give the arm and switch plate an occasional wipe with a barely damp cloth, nothing abrasive. It carries a one year warranty.
