Description

A small wall light with antique brass metalwork and a shade of white faux silk, 12cm across, with a white laminate lining. The proportions are neat and the projection modest, so it sits close to the wall without crowding a narrow space. A rocker switch on the body means the light can be turned on and off where you stand, with no need for a switch by the door or a cord above the bed.

That local switch is what makes it useful either side of a bed, where reaching for a lamp at arm's length beats crossing a dark room. It works equally well on a landing, in a hallway with little floor space, or flanking a mirror or a chimney breast in a sitting room. It takes a single candle lamp, and we would choose a warm white LED candle for bedrooms and a slightly cooler one where you read or work. Fit dimmable lamps if you want the level on a dimmer, as the fitting itself does not do the dimming. Lamps are not included.

The frame is metal in an antique brass finish, warm and softly aged rather than bright, and it pairs kindly with painted walls, oak and older timber. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a bathroom or a porch asks for a sealed fitting instead. For upkeep, run a dry duster over the shade now and then, working with the weave rather than against it, and give the brasswork an occasional buff with a clean soft cloth, leaving polishes and sprays out of it altogether. It carries a one year warranty. We like a pair of these facing each other across a bed or a hearth, where the white shades lift the brass and keep the whole arrangement light.
