Description

A compact fabric wall light with a taupe faux silk shade lined in halo gold, carried on matt black metalwork. The shade is 12cm across, so the fitting keeps close to the wall and throws a soft, contained pool of light rather than washing a whole room. That gold inner face warms the light on its way out and keeps the taupe reading as a soft, warm neutral rather than a flat grey. A rocker switch sits on the body, so the light is controlled where you stand.

We reach for this one beside a bed where the table is already full of books and a glass of water, and in hallways or on a landing where a shade of any real width would be in the way. It suits a reading corner, a spare room or the side of a chimney breast just as well. It takes a single E14 candle lamp, and we would fit a warm white LED candle here and forget about it; up to 20W is allowed, and a dimmable lamp is needed if you want it on a dimmer. Lamps are bought separately.

The metal parts are painted a low sheen black that does not pick up fingerprints the way a polished finish does, and the shade is a fabric over frame construction with the gold lining bonded inside. For upkeep, run a soft clothes brush or a vacuum nozzle at low suction over the fabric now and then, and use nothing damp on it; the black metal takes a dry cloth. Wired for ordinary household mains, it belongs in rooms that stay dry, so kitchens and hallways yes, shower rooms no. It carries a one year warranty. Two of them at either side of a headboard give a tidy, matched pair, and the black and taupe sits happily with brass or dark timber elsewhere in the room.
