Description

Small, quietly done and easy to place, this is a wall light with a soft fabric shade in faux silk. The shade is taupe with a gold-toned lining, so the light picks up a little warmth on its way out, and the fitting behind it wears a champagne gold finish. A rocker switch sits on the fitting itself, which means it can be worked by hand where there is no switch nearby. It takes one E14 candle lamp of up to 20W, and we would choose an LED candle for it.

The proportions suit tight spots: a narrow hallway, either side of a bed where there is no room for a table lamp, or beside a reading chair. The shade measures 12cm across, so it reads as a modest light rather than something that takes over a wall. Because the switch is built in, it earns its place in a guest room or on a landing, where hunting for a wall plate in the dark is a nuisance. Keep it to indoor rooms, well away from bathrooms and anywhere steamy.

The shade is faux silk, and the pale gold finish carries across the metal parts through to the switch itself. For dusting, a soft brush or the upholstery tool on a vacuum does the job, working lightly across the fabric; save any damp cloth for the metal, and only once the lamp has gone cold. The fitting is earthed, and dimming is possible provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. It carries a one year warranty. We like it in a room where fabric already features, picking up on curtains, a headboard or a shaded table lamp, and it is one we reach for when a shelf or bedside table has run out of space.
