Description

A small faux silk shade on a matt black wall fitting, this is one for the quieter corners of a room. The shade is 12cm wide, black on the outside and lined in white laminate, which keeps the light it gives clean rather than muddy. A rocker switch sits on the body, so it is worked where you stand rather than from a switch by the door. It takes an E14 candle lamp, the slim sort that suits a shade of this size.

We would fit these either side of a bed, where each reader gets their own light and their own switch. They suit a landing, a hallway with no room for anything that stands proud of the wall, or the wall beside a reading chair. Because the projection is modest, you can walk past without catching a shoulder, and the fabric softens the light in a way that glass never quite manages. With a dimmable lamp fitted, the level can be taken down late in the evening, and up to 20W gives more than enough for LED.

The finish is matt black throughout the metalwork, and the shade is fabric, so it asks for a gentler hand than a glass or steel fitting. Keep it dry. A soft brush drawn over the faux silk lifts dust without marking it, and the black metal needs nothing more than a dry cloth as you go round the room. It carries a one year warranty. We stock it in matt black, and it works well where the walls are pale and the fitting is meant to read as a small dark shape rather than a bright one. Lamps are bought separately.
