Description

A small switched wall light with the lamp left on show, finished in antique brass with a warm, slightly aged tone rather than a bright polish. The backplate measures 11cm across, and the short arm holds the lampholder close by, so the whole thing keeps to a shallow footprint. Switching is done on the fitting itself, by a rocker that clicks under the thumb. It takes an E14 candle lamp of up to 20W, and we would put a clear LED candle in it, since the lamp is on view and a good filament shape earns its keep here. Candle shades are optional and sold separately: see our lamp shades.

We reach for this one where a plug-in table lamp would only clutter a surface: beside a bed, along a hallway, either side of a mirror, or in a shallow recess where a shaded fitting would sit too proud. Having the switch on the body means you can work it from where you are sitting rather than crossing the room for the main switch. It suits anyone who likes the lamp itself to be part of the look, and it reads well in pairs, one each side of a headboard or a chimney breast.

The metalwork wears its antique brass finish quietly and needs very little of you: turn the power off, let things cool, then run a soft dry cloth over the arm and backplate, keeping polishes and damp cloths away from the finish. It is wired as an earthed fitting and belongs in dry rooms indoors, so bedrooms, landings and living rooms rather than shower rooms or an open porch. Dimming is possible provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included, so pick the candle to match the mood of the room.
