Three slender arms rise from a matt black frame and sit within a single wide drum, so the lamps read as one warm pool of light rather than separate spots. The shade is faux silk in raw cocoa with grecian bronze inside, and at 50cm across it has real presence overhead without looking bulky. Each arm takes an E14 candle lamp, and the drop can be kept short under a lower ceiling or let down further over a table. Dimming is possible if you fit dimmable lamps, though a dimmer switch is not part of the fitting.

We would hang this over a dining table, where the broad shade spreads light across plates and place settings and the bronze inner face gives the glow a little extra warmth. It also earns its keep in a wide hallway or a bedroom with height to spare, and it suits rooms where a narrow single pendant would look lost. It is the one we reach for when someone wants fabric overhead rather than glass or metal. Keep it to dry indoor rooms: kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms are all fine, bathrooms and covered porches are not.

The metalwork is matt black throughout, ceiling plate, arms and lamp holders alike, and the faux silk has a fine, even weave that keeps the colour looking soft rather than shiny. Cleaning is a job for a soft brush or the upholstery tool on a vacuum, used lightly across the fabric now and then; keep sprays and wet cloths away from the shade, and reserve the barely damp cloth for the black metal if it marks. It carries a one year warranty. Warm-toned candle lamps bring the raw cocoa and bronze up nicely, while cooler ones tend to flatten both, so it is worth choosing them with some care. Lamps are not included.

What size is the shade?

The drum measures 500mm across and 220mm deep, which gives it enough width to sit comfortably over a dining table or in a broad hallway.

How far does it hang down?

The drop is adjustable from 340mm at its shortest to 1800mm at its longest, so it can be set high in a standard room or brought low over a table.

Which lamps does it take?

Three E14 lamps, up to 20W each. LED candle lamps in the C35 shape are the ones we would fit here.

Can I use it with a dimmer?

Yes, provided the lamps you fit are dimmable. A dimmer is not supplied with the fitting.

How do I keep the fabric looking good?

Brush it gently or run a vacuum upholstery tool over it every few months. Avoid water, polish and fabric sprays on the faux silk; only the black metal should meet a damp cloth.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. This one is rated for dry indoor rooms only, so keep it out of bathrooms and any space that gets steam or splashes.
