Description

Three arms and a cream organza shade give this pendant a light, dressed feel without much visual weight. The shade is 45cm across, wide enough to hold its own above a table, and the sheer fabric lets a soft glow out through the sides as well as down. Champagne gold metalwork sits behind it, warm rather than brassy, and reads as a quiet gleam through the organza. The cream and the gold keep the whole fitting in a warm, neutral register. It takes small E14 candle lamps, and we would fit LEDs in ours.

The drop can be set to suit the room, out to 1.8m where there is height to fill, so it works over a dining table, in a hallway, or at the foot of a stairwell. It is a good choice in a bedroom too, where the fabric softens the light and the gold picks up on mirror frames and handles. Fitted with dimmable lamps on a compatible dimmer, it will take the level down for evenings. We reach for this one where a glass or metal shade would feel too hard for the room.

The shade is organza, so it wants a gentle hand: dust it with a soft brush, or a vacuum held clear on its lowest setting, and keep sprays and damp cloths away from the fabric. A dry cloth is enough for the champagne gold. Keep it to rooms that stay dry, as steam and splashes are not for a fabric shade of this kind, so a bathroom or a covered porch is out. It carries a one year warranty. Cream and gold sit easily with wood, linen and warmer paint colours, and it is a shape that can be repeated along a longer table. Lamps are not included.
