Description

Two candle sockets sit side by side on a compact backplate finished in bright polished nickel, which picks up whatever light is already in the room. A rocker switch is built into the fitting itself, so it can be turned on and off where you are sitting rather than from a switch across the room. It comes without shades, which leaves the look yours to set: small candle shades soften it, while bare lamps keep things plain and open. At 24cm wide it stays modest on the wall and holds its projection tight.

We reach for this one either side of a bed, where the switch on the body saves fumbling for a cord, and in hallways, small landings and reading corners where a floor lamp would only be in the way. Each socket takes an E14 candle lamp of up to 20W, and LED candles suit it well; fit dimmable lamps if you want to run the pair from a dimmer, as the lamps do the dimming here. It suits anyone after light at eye level in a small room without a bulky fitting taking over.

The polished nickel has a mirror-bright surface, so marks and fingerprints show more readily than on a brushed finish. A dry microfibre cloth brings the shine back, and we would keep metal polishes and household sprays well away from it. Rated for indoor rooms that stay dry, it is not one for bathroom zones or a covered porch, and it needs an earth connection. It carries a one year warranty. A pair flanking a mirror or a bed reads well together without crowding the wall, and the plain nickel arms take patterned shades happily if you want a little more colour at that height.
