Description

Antique brass gives this small wall light a warm, gently aged tone rather than a bright polish. It takes a pair of E14 candle lamps, and a rocker switch sits on the fitting itself, so the light is worked where you stand rather than from across the room. At 24cm wide it stays modest in scale and holds close to the wall. It arrives without shades, which leaves the covering to you: plain candle clips, small fabric shades, or nothing at all if you prefer the lamps on show.

We would fit these in a bedroom where the bedside table is too small, or too full, to take a lamp. The switch is to hand, the light falls where you read, and the surface below stays clear. They also work either side of a mirror in a dressing area, spaced along a hallway, or flanking a chimney breast. Dimmable lamps will bring the level down, though a dimmer is needed to control them. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a bathroom or an open porch asks for something sealed.

The metalwork is solid and has a genuine weight to it, and the antique treatment leaves the brass soft in tone and a little darker in the recesses. Dusting is usually all it asks for: a dry cloth over the metal and a soft brush around the lamp holders, with polishes, sprays and anything abrasive kept well away, since aged brass is quick to brighten back to something you never wanted. It carries a one year warranty. Kept simple, it sits happily against dark painted walls and older woodwork, and just as comfortably in a plain modern room where the brass is the only warm note in the scheme.
