Description

The Balance is a table lamp built around a cantilever arm design, with a cylindrical drum shade in brown fabric suspended from a polished brass horizontal arm. The vertical stem and circular weighted base are finished in a matt brown powder-coat that matches the shade, while the counterbalanced brass arm extends over the base to hold the shade off-centre. The shade houses a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately).

Designed for desks, side tables and console tables where the cantilever structure allows the light to overhang the table edge without the base needing to sit directly beneath the shade. The 656mm overall height suits typical desk or bedside table positions, with the shade sitting approximately 500mm above the surface once the lamp is in place. The white laminate lining inside the brown fabric shade reflects light downwards and outwards, turning the shade into a diffuser rather than just a decorative shell.

The combination of matt brown metalwork and polished brass accents gives the lamp a two-tone finish that pairs with both traditional wood furniture and contemporary interiors where warm metallics are used alongside neutral textiles. The circular base provides stability on flat surfaces without needing to be clamped or wall-mounted, and the brown fabric shade softens light output compared to a bare bulb or metal shade. What bulb does it take?

The lamp accepts a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for reading or ambient lighting on a desk or bedside table.

Is the arm adjustable?

No. The brass arm is fixed in position as a cantilever structure, counterbalanced by the weighted base. The shade cannot be repositioned or angled once the lamp is assembled.

Can it be used as a reading light?

Yes. The cantilever design allows the shade to overhang a desk or bedside table edge, positioning light where it's needed for reading without the base having to sit directly beneath the bulb. Pair with a directional LED bulb if focused task light is required.

How is the shade cleaned?

The brown fabric shade can be dusted with a soft brush or vacuumed gently using an upholstery attachment. For more persistent marks, spot-clean with a barely-damp cloth and allow to air-dry fully before switching the lamp back on.
