Description

The Balance is a floor lamp built around a cantilever frame: a vertical column in brown-painted steel rises from a circular weighted base, with a horizontal arm extending from the top to suspend a cylindrical drum shade off to one side. The shade itself is brown fabric on the exterior with a gold-lined interior, and the exposed metal frame elements — the horizontal arm, the canopy fixing and base trim — are finished in polished brass.

Designed for placement beside a sofa, armchair or bed where overhead space is limited, the cantilever arrangement allows the shade to hang directly over a reading position without requiring floor space directly beneath the light source. The lamp suits living rooms, bedrooms and home offices where side-of-seat task lighting is needed. The shade houses a single E27 bulb (sold separately), with the gold lining inside the drum reflecting warm tones downwards and outwards through the brown fabric.

The brown column and base anchor the lamp visually, while the polished brass accents on the horizontal arm and base trim provide contrast and catch ambient light from windows or other sources in the room. The weighted base measures approximately 300mm in diameter, giving stability on carpets and hard floors without requiring the lamp to be positioned against a wall. The overall height places the shade at approximately 1500-1600mm from floor level, suitable for use beside standard-height seating.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does the Balance take?

The lamp takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K to complement the gold shade lining.

Can the shade position be adjusted?

No. The shade hangs from a fixed cantilever arm extending from the top of the column. The position is set during assembly and does not adjust once the lamp is assembled.

Is the gold visible when the lamp is off?

Yes. The interior of the drum shade is lined with gold-coloured material, which is visible through the open top and bottom of the shade even when the bulb is off.

What's the footprint of the base?

The circular base is approximately 300mm in diameter. The weighted base provides stability on both carpets and hard floors without needing to be positioned against a wall for support.
