Description

Round, low and unfussy, this is a frosted glass diffuser set into a black surround, giving a soft spread of light rather than a hard beam. At about 19cm across it keeps a shallow projection, so it sits close to the wall and clear of opening doors and gates. A single E27 lamp does the work, up to 40W, and we would choose an LED GLS bulb behind that frosted glass for an even, glare free glow.

It suits the practical places first: a back door, a porch, the passage between house and garage, or a run of matching lights across the doors of a small block. Sealed against rain and splashes, it copes with ordinary outdoor positions, and the frosted glass keeps the light kind at close quarters, which helps beside a window or over a bench where a bare lamp would glare. In a porch it gives enough light to find a keyhole, and above a garden door it marks the way without flooding a neighbour's window. Fitted with a suitable lamp and a compatible dimmer, the level can be brought down for late evenings.

The shade is frosted glass and the surround is black throughout, a combination that reads as neatly on a rendered wall as on brick. Outdoor glass picks up dust, cobwebs and leaf litter far quicker than anything indoors, so give it a wipe with a damp cloth and dry it off, power off and lamp cold. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the round shape in white as well, and an oval version in both black and white if you want a wider outline; lamps are supplied separately.
