Description

The AV:Link STP-2 is a compact stereo pre-amplifier (US: preamp) built for turntables fitted with magnetic cartridges. It takes the low-level phono signal from your deck and amplifies it to line level, matching it to the line or CD input on a standard amplifier. This is what you need if your amplifier has no dedicated phono input, letting you connect a record player without hunting for a receiver that includes one.

Inside, the unit uses RIAA correction to restore the correct tonal balance from vinyl, with a frequency response of 30Hz to 20kHz and 34dB of gain. Input and output impedance both sit at 50k ohms. It runs as an ultra-low noise design, and a grounding screw is fitted to help eliminate hum and interference picked up through the earth (US: ground) connection. There's a simple on/off switch on the unit so you can leave it wired in and power it down when not in use.

Power comes from the included UK mains adaptor, or you can run it from a 9V PP3 battery if you prefer (battery not supplied), which is handy if you want to keep it away from mains noise. The STP-2 measures 30 x 70 x 90mm and weighs 250g, so it tucks neatly behind an amplifier or beside your turntable. It's a straightforward, practical way to bring an existing record player into a modern hi-fi setup.

What is the grounding screw for?

It gives you a point to attach your turntable's earth wire, which helps eliminate hum and interference and keeps playback clean.

Does it have an on/off switch?

Yes, there's an on/off switch on the unit, so you can leave it connected and simply power it down when it's not in use.

What are the dimensions?
