Description

The AV:Link Scart adaptor converts between a 21-pin Scart connector and three RCA phono sockets (composite video yellow, audio left white, audio right red) plus a 4-pin S-Video socket. A slide switch on the body selects whether the adaptor operates as an input (feeding signal from RCA/S-Video devices into a Scart socket on a TV) or output (feeding signal from a Scart source out to RCA/S-Video recorders or displays).

Designed for connecting legacy equipment where one device uses Scart and the other uses RCA composite or S-Video, the adaptor suits VCRs, DVD players, set-top boxes, camcorders and older game consoles to CRT and early flatscreen TVs with Scart inputs. The switch avoids the need for separate input-only and output-only adaptors when connecting multiple devices in different directions.

The adaptor body measures 57 x 22 x 51mm and weighs 34g, sitting behind the TV or equipment without strain on the Scart socket. The black plastic housing holds all connections on one face, with the Scart plug protruding from the opposite side. When using S-Video, connect to the S-Video socket and leave the yellow RCA composite socket unused — S-Video carries higher-quality separated luminance and chrominance signals than composite.

Frequently Asked

What does the input/output switch do?

The switch changes the signal direction. Set to 'input' when feeding RCA or S-Video devices into a TV's Scart socket. Set to 'output' when taking a Scart source signal out to RCA or S-Video displays or recorders. The wrong setting will result in no signal.

Can I use RCA and S-Video at the same time?

No. Use either the three RCA sockets (composite video + stereo audio) or the S-Video socket (video only, requiring separate audio connection). S-Video provides better picture quality than composite when both devices support it.

Does it convert PAL to NTSC or vice versa?

No. The adaptor is a passive connector change only. It does not convert signal standards, resolutions or formats. Both devices must use the same video standard (PAL, NTSC, SECAM) for the signal to display correctly.

Will it work with modern HDMI TVs?

Only if the TV has a Scart input socket, which is rare on models manufactured after approximately 2010. For HDMI-only TVs you would need an active video converter box rather than this passive adaptor.
