Description

The AV:Link AV2HDMI is a composite RCA to HDMI upscaler that converts analogue CVBS video and stereo audio into digital HDMI output at either 720p or 1080p resolution. The converter accepts the three-RCA composite connection standard (yellow video, red/white audio) from older equipment and outputs over a single HDMI cable to modern TVs, monitors and projectors.

Designed for connecting legacy devices to current displays, the converter suits retro gaming consoles, VCRs, older camcorders, DVD players and set-top boxes that predate HDMI. The resolution switch on the top panel selects between 720p@60Hz and 1080p@60Hz output, allowing the user to match the native resolution of the display or prioritise compatibility over upscaling quality depending on the source material.

The converter is powered via a mini-USB port on the side panel, drawing 5V DC from any standard USB power adapter, PC USB port, or TV USB service port. The 66 x 55 x 20mm footprint and 35g weight make the unit small enough to sit behind a TV or be cable-tied to the back of a monitor without additional mounting. The unit accepts PAL, NTSC, SECAM and their variants automatically, so no manual switching is needed when changing between region-locked source devices.

Frequently Asked

Does this converter work with SCART devices?

No. This converter accepts only composite RCA connections (yellow video, red/white audio). If your device has SCART output, you will need a SCART-to-RCA adapter cable before connecting to this converter.

What's the difference between 720p and 1080p output?

720p output is 1280 x 720 pixels; 1080p is 1920 x 1080 pixels. The converter upscales the analogue composite input (typically 576i or 480i) to whichever HD resolution you select. Most modern displays handle both, but some older HD-ready TVs may only support 720p reliably.

Is a USB power adapter included?

A USB power cable (mini-USB) is included. You will need to supply your own USB power adapter, or you can power the converter from a USB port on your TV or a PC.

Will this improve the picture quality of VHS tapes?

The converter upscales the resolution but cannot add detail that is not present in the source. VHS tapes will still show analogue artefacts (noise, tracking lines, colour bleed) but will be displayed at the correct aspect ratio and resolution on a modern HDMI screen.
