Description

The AV:Link Cat6 RJ45 inline coupler is a female-to-female adapter for joining two Cat6, Cat5e or Cat5 ethernet patch leads. Nickel-plated contacts inside each RJ45 port maintain signal integrity across the join, while spring-loaded retaining clips lock onto the cable plugs to prevent accidental disconnection.

Designed for extending ethernet runs without re-terminating cables, the coupler suits installations where a single patch lead is too short to reach between a router and a device, or where two existing cables need to be joined to complete a structured cabling run. The compact 36 x 21 x 20mm housing fits inside most cable management trunking and behind wall-mounted equipment without adding significant depth.

The coupler supports data rates up to 10Gb/s on Cat6 patch leads, and backwards-compatible with Cat5e (1Gb/s) and Cat5 (100Mb/s) standards. The nickel plating on the internal contacts reduces signal loss and resists corrosion in damp environments, though this is not a weatherproof or IP-rated component and should be used indoors or in dry enclosures only.

What cable types does it support?

The coupler accepts Cat6, Cat5e and Cat5 solid-core or stranded patch leads with standard 8P8C RJ45 plugs. It supports data rates up to 10Gb/s on Cat6 cables, 1Gb/s on Cat5e, and 100Mb/s on Cat5.

Does it degrade signal quality?

Any additional join in an ethernet run introduces some insertion loss, but the nickel-plated contacts in this coupler minimise that loss. For runs under 90m total length the impact on signal quality is negligible for most residential and commercial applications. Avoid stacking multiple couplers in series on a single cable run.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. This coupler has no IP rating and is not weatherproof. Use it indoors or in dry, protected enclosures only.

Does it work with flat or round ethernet cables?

The coupler accepts any standard 8P8C RJ45 plug, so both round and flat ethernet cables will fit as long as the plug end is standard size. Very thick or moulded boots on some patch leads may prevent full insertion.
