Description

This AV:Link Cat5e patch lead (also called a patch cord or network cable) connects two devices over your wired network using standard RJ45 plugs at each end. It runs 100/1000Base-T ethernet, so it handles both Fast Ethernet and Gigabit connections, giving you a straightforward way to link a router, switch, computer or games console into your setup.

The cable uses solid 24AWG copper clad aluminium in a twisted pair (twist pair) layout, which helps keep signals clean over the run. The core diameter measures 4 x 2 x 0.51mm, with an overall cable diameter of 5mm, and this length is 30 metres. The UTP construction (unshielded twisted pair) keeps the lead flexible and easy to route around desks, skirting boards and under carpets.

At 30 metres, this lead suits longer runs between rooms or across a larger space where a shorter cable would fall short. Shorter versions in the range are supplied in a retail friendly sealed bag. If you need reliable wired ethernet rather than relying on Wi-Fi, a patch lead like this gives you a consistent connection for streaming, gaming, file transfers and everyday browsing.

Frequently Asked

What is the difference between UTP and shielded cable?

UTP stands for unshielded twisted pair, meaning the cable has no extra foil or braid screening. It stays lighter and more flexible, and works well in typical home and office settings away from heavy electrical interference.

Will this work for Gigabit internet?

Yes. The lead supports 100/1000Base-T ethernet, so it handles both Fast Ethernet and Gigabit (1000Base-T) connections.

Is this the same as a patch cord or network cable?

Yes. Patch lead, patch cord and network cable all refer to the same thing: a cable with RJ45 plugs on each end for connecting network devices.

How long is this cable?

This version is 30 metres, which suits longer runs between rooms or across larger spaces.

What connectors does it use?

It has a standard RJ45 plug at each end, which fits the ethernet ports found on routers, switches, computers and consoles.

Can I run it under carpet or along skirting?

Yes. The 5mm overall diameter and flexible UTP build make it easy to route around rooms and tuck out of the way.
