Description

This AV:Link Cat5e patch lead (also called a patch cable) connects an RJ45 plug to an RJ45 plug, giving you a straightforward run between your router, switch, wall socket or any other networked device. At 25 metres it suits longer runs where you need to reach across a room, along a hallway or between floors without splicing shorter cables together. It is built for standard 100/1000Base-T ethernet, so it works with the wired networking you already have at home or in the office.

The conductor is solid 24AWG copper clad aluminium in a twisted pair layout, which keeps the signal steady across the length of the cable. It is capable of transmitting at GHz speed, so it handles gigabit connections as well as slower 100Base-T links. The unshielded twisted pair (UTP) construction keeps the lead flexible and easy to route, and the core measures 4 x 2 x 0.51mm with an overall cable diameter of 5mm.

Shorter lengths in this range come in a retail friendly sealed bag, so they sit neatly on a shelf or in a drawer until you need them. Whether you are wiring up a home office, extending a network to a games console or smart TV, or replacing a worn lead, this patch cable gives you a reliable wired link. Because it is a plug to plug lead, both ends push straight into any standard RJ45 port without extra adapters.

Frequently Asked

What is the difference between Cat5e and Cat6?

Cat5e supports 100/1000Base-T ethernet at gigabit speeds, which covers most home and office needs. Cat6 offers tighter tolerances for higher bandwidth, but for standard gigabit connections this Cat5e lead does the job.

Does this lead work for gigabit connections?

Yes. It is capable of transmitting at GHz speed and supports 100/1000Base-T ethernet, so it handles gigabit as well as slower 100Base-T links.

What does UTP mean?

UTP stands for unshielded twisted pair. The wires are twisted together to keep the signal steady, without an added shielding layer, which keeps the cable flexible and easy to route.

What are the connectors on each end?

Both ends have a standard RJ45 plug, so the lead pushes straight into any RJ45 port on a router, switch, wall socket or networked device.

Is 25 metres too long for a reliable connection?

No. This length works well within standard ethernet limits, so you can run it between floors or across large rooms without losing your connection.
