Description

This AV:Link Cat5e patch lead connects your devices with an RJ45 plug at each end, giving you a straightforward run between routers, switches, computers and other networked kit. At 20 metres it suits longer cable routes where you need to reach across a room or between floors without joining shorter leads together. The cable carries 100/1000Base-T ethernet, so it handles both standard and gigabit connections.

Inside, the lead uses solid 24AWG copper clad aluminium in a twisted pair layout, which keeps the signal stable and helps cut down on interference along the run. The four twisted pairs measure 0.51mm each, and the overall cable diameter comes in at 5mm, keeping it slim enough to route along skirting or through cable clips. It is rated for transmission at GHz speed, so it keeps pace with modern home and office networking.

In the UK this is usually called a patch lead, while in the US you will often see the same product listed as a patch cable or patch cord. Whatever the name, the job is the same: a ready-made link that saves you crimping your own connectors. Shorter lengths in the range arrive in a sealed retail bag, and this 20 metre option gives you plenty of reach for wiring up a fixed network setup.
