Description

Twelve clear glass shades sit in a square antique brass frame, each taking a small E14 candle lamp, so the light spreads wide rather than falling as a single beam. The shades are clear, so the lamps stay visible and the frame reads as light as it is broad. It measures 47cm across, and the drop adjusts over a generous span, giving room to hang it high in a tall hall or bring it down over a table. We would fit LED candle lamps here, plain or flame tip, for a soft warm fill.

With height to spare it earns its keep: a stairwell, a galleried entrance, a long dining room where the table wants even light along its length rather than one pool in the middle. Because the light comes from many small sources spread across the square, the effect is a broad ambient wash rather than a hard downward beam. It is one we reach for where a single large shade would look heavy. Dimmable lamps will take it down to a low evening glow, with a dimmer switch bought separately. Keep it to dry indoor rooms, away from bathrooms and open porches.

Glass and metal throughout, the brass carrying a warm aged tone that sits well against the clear shades. For care, a dry microfibre cloth over the metal and each piece of glass in turn, with the power off and the lamps cool. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same square design in polished chrome, and the range runs down through smaller pendants to semi-flush fittings, a table lamp and a wall light, so a hall and a landing can be kept in step. Lamps are not included.

How far does it hang down?

The drop can be set anywhere between 1040mm and 2190mm, measured to the bottom of the fitting. The body itself is 860mm tall and 470mm square.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer switch. Neither is included with the pendant.

How should the glass be cleaned?

Switch off at the wall and let the lamps cool, then wipe each shade with a dry or barely damp microfibre cloth. Avoid sprays and abrasive creams, which can mark the antique brass.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which makes it a fitting for dry indoor rooms only.

Is there another finish?

Yes, the same square pendant is also made in polished chrome.
