Description

This outdoor wall lantern takes its cue from traditional exterior lighting, with a matt black frame, clear glass panels and decorative scrollwork that frames the bulb inside. It is made from die-cast aluminium, a metal chosen for outdoor fittings because it resists corrosion, and it measures 490mm tall and 225mm wide with a 270mm projection from the wall. The lantern takes a single E27 bulb rated up to 60W, and a filament LED lamp gives it an authentic, warm glow behind the glass. At 1.6kg it feels substantial and hangs with a reassuring weight beside a door.

The Ashshaw is well suited to a front porch, a back door, a garden wall or a passageway where you want a classic exterior look. Its IP44 rating means it is protected against splashing water from any direction, so it copes with British weather and can be fitted in an exposed outdoor position. As a Class 1 fitting it must be earthed and should be installed by a qualified electrician onto a suitable outdoor supply. Fitted in pairs either side of a doorway, the lanterns give a balanced, welcoming light that guides visitors to the entrance.

The matt black finish is easy to look after; wipe the metalwork and glass with a soft, damp cloth from time to time to clear dust and salt, and check the fixings occasionally on an exposed wall. Because the shade is clear glass, a decorative filament lamp is on show, so choose a lamp you like the look of unlit as well as lit.
