Description
The Ashland Bay is a 346mm outdoor wall lantern in a weathered zinc finish, built around a cylindrical clear seeded glass cylinder held within a die-cast metal frame. The seeded glass creates subtle texture variations that scatter light from the single E27 bulb inside (sold separately), casting diffused light across porches, front door surrounds and garden wall positions. The metal lantern hood at the top and the decorative carry handle detail above it reference colonial carriage lamp design.
Designed for outdoor installation in positions sheltered from direct driving rain, the lantern carries an IP44 rating for protection against solid objects above 1mm and water splashes from any direction. The 193mm width and 213mm projection from the wall suit medium-scale doorways and wall sections without overwhelming smaller cottage entrances or looking undersized on wider facades. The weathered zinc finish gives a matte grey-silver patina that weathers further over time when exposed to moisture and temperature cycling.
The backplate mounts to external masonry with two fixing points, concealing the cable run through the wall. The seeded glass cylinder removes for bulb replacement and cleaning, held in place by the top and bottom metal bands. The glass texture reduces glare from exposed filament bulbs and pairs well with LED Edison-style bulbs in the 2200K-2700K range for a period look, or standard A-shape warm-white LEDs for higher lumen output across pathways.
Kichler manufactures the Ashland Bay in the USA using die-cast aluminium for the frame components, giving corrosion resistance in coastal and high-humidity locations. The three-year manufacturer guarantee covers finish degradation and component failure under normal outdoor use.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Ashland Bay take?
The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED in the 6-10W range, or an LED Edison-style filament bulb for a period appearance.
Can this be used in fully exposed positions?
The IP44 rating protects against water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, door surrounds with overhangs, and wall positions under eaves. It is not rated for fully exposed positions subject to direct driving rain or submersion.
Does the weathered zinc finish change over time?
Yes. The weathered zinc is a living finish that continues to patina when exposed to outdoor conditions. The matte grey-silver tone may darken or develop tonal variation depending on humidity, temperature cycling and exposure to moisture. This is a characteristic of the finish, not a defect.
How is the glass removed for bulb changes?
The clear seeded glass cylinder is held by the top and bottom metal bands and can be removed once the lantern is de-energised. The bulb is then accessible from inside the glass enclosure. Refer to the installation instructions for the specific release method for this model.
