Description

The Ascent is a 790mm table lamp built around a tapered four-sided polished nickel steel column rising from a 90mm square base to a 300mm diameter black faux silk shade. The polished nickel finish on the steel reflects room light and adjacent finishes, giving the base a mirror-bright surface that changes appearance depending on lighting conditions and placement.

Designed for bedside tables, console tables and side tables in living rooms and bedrooms, the Ascent provides ambient and task light through a single E27 bulb (sold separately) positioned inside the black faux silk shade. The 300mm shade diameter diffuses light downward and outward while the hard-backed construction holds the shade's tapered drum shape. The 450mm base height positions the centre of the shade approximately 600mm above the table surface, making it suitable for reading when placed beside a bed or chair.

The polished nickel and black combination contrasts warm metallic reflection with a deep neutral tone, pairing with both contemporary and transitional interiors. The 90mm base footprint keeps the lamp stable on narrow console tables and bedside units without occupying excessive surface area. The tapered column narrows as it rises, reducing visual weight while maintaining structural stability. The black faux silk shade conceals the bulb and fitting when viewed from the side, preventing glare at eye level when seated.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does the Ascent take?

The lamp accepts a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient bedside or living room lighting.

What surface area does the base require?

The base measures 90mm square, so the lamp needs a minimum 100mm x 100mm clear area for stable placement. The 300mm shade diameter means the overall footprint is 300mm once the shade is considered.

Is the polished nickel base prone to fingerprints?

Yes. Polished nickel is a mirror-bright finish that shows fingerprints and smudges when handled. Wipe the base gently with a soft microfibre cloth to remove marks. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads as they will scratch the polished surface.

Can the shade be replaced or removed?

The shade is designed to fit the specific harp and finial assembly on the Ascent base. Replacement shades of the same 300mm diameter and fitting style can be sourced, though matching the exact taper and faux silk texture may require contacting Elstead Lighting directly.
