Ascent Table Lamp - Black Steel Column with Grey Silk Shade

The Ascent is a 79cm table lamp built around a tapered four-sided steel column finished in matt black, accented with polished nickel details at the base and shade finial. A 30cm diameter dark grey faux silk hard-backed shade sits on top, diffusing light from a single E27 bulb (sold separately).

Designed for bedside tables, console tables and desk surfaces where height matters, the Ascent's 45cm base column provides enough lift to clear stacked books or decorative objects without the lamp feeling oversized. The 9cm square footprint at the base keeps the lamp stable on narrow surfaces. The tapered geometry of the steel column pairs well with mid-century, contemporary and minimalist interiors where clean lines are preferred over ornamental detail.

The dark grey faux silk shade is backed with a rigid liner that holds its shape and prevents sagging over time. The shade's taper (26cm top diameter, 30cm bottom diameter) directs light downward and outward, making the lamp suitable for reading at a bedside or providing task light on a desk. The matt black finish on the steel column minimises reflections under daylight, while the polished nickel accents at the top and base catch ambient light to soften the contrast.

What bulb does the Ascent take?

The lamp takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb. Bulbs are sold separately. The maximum wattage is not listed in the specification table, but most table lamps of this type accommodate bulbs up to 60W. For a warm reading light, pair with a 6-10W LED at 2700K-3000K.

Is it suitable as a bedside lamp?

Yes. The 79cm overall height positions the bottom of the shade at approximately 45-50cm above the surface, which works well for reading in bed when placed on a standard bedside table. The shade directs light downward and outward rather than flooding the room.

How stable is the base?

The 9cm square steel base provides stability on flat surfaces. The tapered column keeps the centre of gravity low. On narrow console tables or shelves, position the lamp away from the edge to avoid accidental knocks.

Can the shade be replaced?

The faux silk shade is a hard-backed drum shade that sits on the lamp frame. Replacement shades with a 26cm top diameter and 30cm bottom diameter can be fitted if needed, though Elstead does not sell replacement shades separately.
