The Asby is a compact table lamp built around a tapered wooden base, wider at the foot and narrowing towards the top, in a light brown wood with a fine, straight grain. It stands 10cm tall, measures 8.5cm in diameter and weighs just 0.24KG, so it moves easily from one surface to another. There is no shade: an E27 lampholder sits at the top of the base, which leaves the bulb you choose fully on show as part of the look. The bulb is not included. With an IP20 rating, this is an indoor lamp for dry rooms only.

Its small footprint makes it a natural fit for a bedside table, a bookshelf, a hall console or a side table beside an armchair, spots where a full-size lamp would crowd the space. Because the lampholder is open, this lamp rewards a decorative bulb: a clear globe or a filament style turns a simple wooden cone into a small centrepiece.
