Description
The Ambledale single wall light carries one candle lamp under a champagne coloured fabric shade on a curved arm finished in antique brass. It projects 210mm from the wall, stands 300mm high and is only 150mm wide, so it takes up very little room in a hallway or beside a bed. One E14 candle bulb of up to 40W is needed and is supplied separately. At 0.6kg this wall sconce is light enough to go onto a plasterboard wall with the right fixings, though a masonry wall is always easier.
Wall lights of this size do the quiet work in a house: lighting a hallway or a staircase at low level, flanking a chimney breast, sitting either side of a bed as reading lights, or lifting a dark corner where there is no floor space for a lamp. Because it is a single light rather than a twin, it also works in a row along a long wall or landing. Antique brass and fabric suit period rooms and cottages, and they soften plainer modern walls. Rated IP20, it is for dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms.
It is a Class 1 earthed fitting, so it needs an earth at the wall box and installation by a qualified electrician. It is dimmable with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch, which we would do where wall lights are the main evening light in a room. Brush the fabric shade with a soft brush and dust the metalwork with a dry cloth, keeping brass polish and abrasive creams away from the antique finish. A matching twin wall light covers wider walls, and the Ambledale range extends to table, floor and ceiling fittings.

Frequently Asked
How far does it stick out from the wall?
210mm, with a height of 300mm and a width of 150mm, so it stays clear of head height in a hallway.
Which bulb does it take?
One E14 candle bulb of up to 40W, supplied separately. A warm white LED candle is the usual choice.
Can it go on a plasterboard wall?
Yes. At 0.6kg it is light, but use fixings rated for the wall type and have an electrician confirm the back box and the earth.
Is it dimmable?
Yes, with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms, so bathrooms and shower rooms need a fitting with an IP rating instead.
How do I clean the shade?
Brush the fabric with a soft brush and wipe the antique brass with a dry cloth. Keep polish and abrasive creams off the finish.
