Description

The Ambledale floor lamp stands 1580mm tall on metalwork finished in antique brass, with twin candle lamps under a champagne coloured fabric shade. The frame measures 480mm wide and 335mm deep, so the head sits out over a chair arm rather than directly above it, which puts the light on the page instead of on your shoulder. Two E14 candle bulbs of up to 40W each are needed and are supplied separately. Metal, glass and fabric all feature in the build, and at 8.3kg this floor light has enough weight to stay where you put it.

It is a reading lamp first: beside a wing chair or the end of a sofa, in a snug, a bay window or a bedroom corner where a table lamp has nowhere to stand. Two lamps rather than one give a broader, softer spread than a single spotlight style floor light, and the fabric shade keeps the glare off. Antique brass sits comfortably with dark timber, painted panelling, leather and older rugs, and it warms up a plain room without needing anything else in the space to match it.
