Description

The Amberhurst large flush ceiling light holds a 450mm shade of Tiffany-style leaded glass with a projection of 160mm, so it stays close to the ceiling while still showing the shape of the dome. The multicoloured glass is cut piece by piece and joined with soldered seams over a metal frame. Two lamp holders behind the glass each take an E27 GLS bulb of up to 60W, supplied separately, which gives enough output for the fitting to work as a main light. It weighs 2.4kg and dims with dimmable bulbs on a compatible dimmer.

Shallow flush fittings solve the problem of a room with no height to spare, and this one suits hallways, landings, kitchens, bedrooms and cottage sitting rooms where a semi-flush or a pendant would sit in the way. Because the light is spread rather than concentrated, it works as the light you switch on when you walk in, with lamps taking over later in the evening. The leaded pattern belongs in older houses, but the colour also lifts plain modern plaster. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms.

The shade is soldered leaded glass on a metal gallery, wired as a Class 1 earthed fitting, which means installation by a qualified electrician. Dust the glass with a dry soft cloth or a soft brush, and lift marks with a barely damp cloth before drying at once, keeping solvents, polishes and abrasive creams off the solder lines. Let bulbs cool before changing them. The Amberhurst range also covers a large pendant, a single wall light and a mini table lamp, so we can repeat the same glass at different heights in a room.
