Description
This amber LED bulb takes the shape of an old squirrel-cage lamp: a tapered glass body with a small tip at the crown and slim LED filaments standing upright inside. The glass is tinted amber, so even when the bulb is off it carries a warm honey colour. It is 10cm long and 4.8cm across, with a standard E27 screw cap, and it draws 4W to give 270lm of light at 2200K, a deep warm light with a golden cast. It is rated IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in dry rooms. It runs on mains voltage of 220 to 240V, 50/60Hz.
We suggest it wherever the bulb itself is on show: a bare pendant on a hanging cord, an open cage shade, a wall light with no diffuser or a table lamp with an open frame. At 270lm it is a mood light rather than a working light, so it suits a dining table, a hallway, a bedroom or a café corner of the kitchen, where you want a soft glow more than bright task lighting. Several hung in a row over a table or a kitchen island give a warm, low light that sits well against wood, brick and dark painted walls. Because the cap is E27, it fits the large screw holders found on a great many pendants and lamps.
Because the filaments are LEDs, the bulb keeps the look of a traditional filament lamp while drawing only 4W. It is not dimmable, so we suggest a light on an ordinary on/off switch rather than a dimmer circuit. To keep the amber glass clear, wipe it with a soft dry cloth once the bulb is switched off and cool. Before you order, check that your fitting takes an E27 cap and has room for a bulb 10cm long, and pick a shade or cage that leaves its shape in view.
