Description
This amber LED bulb takes the classic rounded A shape, with four slim filaments standing upright inside tinted amber glass and a brass-coloured E27 screw cap at the base. It is 13cm long and 7.5cm in diameter, a familiar size for a lampholder that takes an E27 cap. It draws just 4W and gives 300 lumens at 1700K, a deep, golden warm light that reads as a glow rather than a working light. Its IP20 rating settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms, away from water.
We would choose it wherever the bulb itself is on show: a bare pendant over a dining table, an open cage shade, a wall light beside the sofa or a table lamp on a sideboard. Because it is not suitable as a main light source, think of it as the layer that sets the mood rather than the light you rely on for close work. Alongside brighter overhead lighting, it gives a living room, bedroom, kitchen or hallway a warm, low wash of amber in the evening, and the visible filaments bring a vintage look that sits well with timber, exposed brick and dark painted walls.
Being dimmable, it can be brought right down on a compatible dimmer switch for an even softer glow late in the evening. The amber tint in the glass warms the light further and gives the bulb its honeyed colour even when unlit, so it still looks the part by day. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz, the standard household mains supply, and weighs only 0.081KG packed. If you are replacing an existing bulb, check that the holder takes an E27 screw cap and you are ready to go.
