Description

The Altessa Small is a 470mm vertical alabaster table lamp built around an elongated, capsule-topped column of natural Spanish alabaster set into a brushed brass cylindrical base. A single E14 lamp sits inside the brass housing and projects light up through the stone, turning the alabaster column itself into the diffuser. The flat circular brass plinth keeps the lamp stable on shelves and side tables.

At 250mm diameter and 470mm tall, the Altessa Small suits bedside tables, console tables in entrance halls, sideboards in living rooms and reception desks where a sculptural table light is needed without the bulk of a shaded lamp. The narrow footprint sits comfortably alongside books and trays, and the warm glow through the alabaster works well as a low-level evening light or a softer alternative to a bedside reading lamp.

Each alabaster column is cut from natural Spanish stone, so the veining, density and tonal variation differ between individual pieces. When lit, denser bands of mineral show as warmer, more opaque sections while thinner areas glow more brightly, giving the column a layered internal character. The brushed brass base is finished with a soft, warm tone that reads as satin rather than mirror-polished, contrasting cleanly with the matt stone above.

What bulb does the Altessa take?

The lamp uses a single E14 (small Edison screw) bulb, sold separately. A warm-white LED candle bulb between 4-6W and 2700K-3000K gives the most natural-looking glow through the alabaster. Avoid bulbs above the lamp's stated maximum wattage to prevent heat build-up inside the stone column.

Does the alabaster vary between pieces?

Yes. Each column is cut from natural Spanish alabaster, so veining, mineral density and translucency differ between individual lamps. When lit, denser sections appear warmer and more opaque while thinner areas glow more brightly. This natural variation is a feature of the stone, not a defect.

For more stubborn marks a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable, but avoid soaking the stone and do not use household sprays, polishes or chemical cleaners on the column or the brushed brass base.
