Alta 1 Light Medium Bollard - Black

The Norlys Alta is a 490mm-tall bollard light with a cylindrical matt black body and a five-tier louvred head that directs light downward onto pathways, driveways and garden borders. The bollard takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately) and carries an IP65 rating, meaning it's sealed against dust and protected against water jets from any direction, making it suitable for UK gardens, coastal locations and areas with persistent rain or high humidity.

Designed for pathway and driveway lighting where you need controlled downlight rather than scattered glare, the Alta's louvred head prevents upward light spill and keeps the bulb shielded from direct view. The 150mm diameter base mounts onto a ground spike or concrete footing, and the 490mm height places the light source at mid-shin level, enough to illuminate steps, path edges and planting without washing out the surrounding landscape. The bollard works with dimmable LED bulbs if paired with an appropriate outdoor dimmer circuit.

The matt black powder-coated aluminium body resists corrosion in salt air and maintains its finish through freeze-thaw cycles, wet winters and direct sun. What bulb does it take?

The Alta takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations use a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K for pathway lighting. The bollard is compatible with dimmable LEDs if wired to an outdoor dimmer.

How is the bollard installed?

The 150mm-diameter base can be mounted onto a ground spike for temporary or movable installation, or fixed onto a concrete footing for permanent placement. The cable entry point is at the base of the column. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671 wiring regulations.

Is it suitable for coastal locations?

Yes. The IP65 rating and powder-coated aluminium construction resist salt spray and high humidity. The fitting is designed to withstand coastal exposure without corroding, though periodic rinsing with fresh water extends the finish life in severe marine environments.

Does the louvred head reduce light output?

The five-tier louvre directs light downward and prevents upward spill, which reduces the total sphere of illumination compared to an open bulb but concentrates useful light onto the path or driveway surface. This is intentional — it prevents glare and light pollution while maintaining effective ground-level visibility.
