Description

The Alina round is a shallow gypsum disc that sits close against the wall, giving light from two integrated LED sources rather than a lamp on show. At 16cm across it reads as a small circle of light instead of a fitting competing for attention, and the warm 3000K output keeps the glow gentle. There is no dimming and no switch on the body, so it runs from whichever wall switch controls the circuit.

We reach for it in hallways and on stair walls, where a projecting shade would be in the way, and in pairs either side of a bed or a chimney breast. It suits anyone who wants the lit surface to do the talking while the fitting itself stays quiet. Because gypsum takes emulsion, we would paint it the same colour as the wall behind and let it vanish, or pick the disc out in a contrast if you would rather it was noticed. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a bathroom or a porch wants something sealed instead.

The body is cast gypsum in a paintable white, matt to the touch and happy under a roller or brush. Gypsum is porous, so dust it with a dry soft brush and keep water, sprays and cleaning fluids off the surface; small scuffs can be touched in with the paint you used on the wall. The LEDs are built in, so there is nothing to change over its life. It carries a three year warranty.
