Description

Cast in gypsum and supplied ready for paint, this is a narrow upright block that sends light both up and down the wall. At just 75mm across it reads as a tidy vertical line rather than a bulky fitting, and the two GU10 lamps sit recessed at top and bottom so the source stays out of your eyeline. It arrives unswitched, so control comes from the wall switch or circuit it runs on, and dimmable lamps open up the option of a lower level after dark.

Narrow fittings like this earn their keep where space is tight: a hallway a shade would crowd, the wall alongside a stair, an alcove or a chimney breast. We often set them either side of a bed, where the upward wash lifts the ceiling and the downward beam lands near a book. LED reflector lamps rated up to 25W each suit it well. Living rooms, landings and studies are its natural home; keep it to dry rooms indoors and leave bathrooms and porches to sealed fittings.

Gypsum gives the body a solid, slightly chalky surface that takes emulsion straight from the tin, so you can carry your wall colour across it and let the light do the talking, or leave it white as it comes. Dust it with a soft dry brush and keep water and cleaning sprays away from the plaster face; a knock can chip an edge, though touch-in paint hides it. It carries a one year warranty.
