Description
The Alderworth medium table lamp in blue puts a 410mm Tiffany-style shade on a turned metal base, standing 555mm tall. The dragonfly motif is set into leaded glass, the wings cut from individual pieces and leaded into a metal frame so they read clearly against the blue ground. Two E27 GLS bulbs up to 60W each sit inside, giving it the output to light a corner of a room rather than only the table it stands on. It weighs 4.1kg and bulbs are supplied separately.
Blue glass gives a cooler, deeper look than the amber colourway, and we find it sits particularly well in rooms with grey, green, navy or off-white walls. On a side table beside a sofa the shade puts light at reading height and casts colour onto the wall behind; on a console or a sideboard it works as the piece that carries the room in the evening. Two lamps mean you can leave the ceiling light off altogether. It suits period houses, cottages and traditional rooms, and holds its own in a plainer modern space.
Each shade is built by hand from cut pieces of glass, leaded into the frame, so the colour placement varies a little between lamps. The base carries a warm finish that stays behind the glass rather than competing with it. Dust the shade with a dry soft cloth once the bulbs are cool, wipe marks with a barely damp cloth, and keep polish and solvents away from the leaded seams. This one is not rated for dimming. It is IP20 for dry indoor rooms and a Class 1 earthed fitting. Small and mini Alderworth table lamps run alongside in the same blue glass.

Frequently Asked
What is the shade made of?
Cut pieces of blue glass, leaded together by hand into a metal frame in the Tiffany-style method, carrying the dragonfly motif, on a matching metal base.
How does the blue compare with the flame colourway?
Blue reads cooler and deeper, and suits grey, green or navy schemes. The flame version is amber and throws a noticeably warmer light.
What size surface does it need?
The shade is 410mm across and the lamp is 555mm tall, so allow a side table, console or sideboard with around 400mm of depth.
How many bulbs does it take?
Two E27 screw bulbs in a GLS shape, up to 60W each, not supplied. Fit both the same so the glass lights evenly across the shade.
How do I clean it?
Switch off and let the bulbs cool, then dust with a dry soft cloth or soft brush. Wipe marks with a barely damp cloth and dry straight away, keeping sprays and solvents off the lead.
Can it be dimmed?
No, this lamp is not rated for dimming. Run it on standard switching and choose a lower wattage bulb if you want a softer light.
