Description
The Alderworth medium table lamp pairs a 410mm Tiffany-style shade with a turned metal base, standing 555mm tall overall. The dragonfly motif is set into leaded glass in soft beige and cream tones, cut piece by piece and leaded into a metal frame, so the pattern shows plainly without a strong colour cast. Two E27 GLS bulbs up to 60W each sit inside, which is more output than most table lamps of this size manage. It weighs 3.6kg and bulbs are supplied separately.
The beige colourway is the one we suggest when a room is already busy or the palette is kept quiet, because it gives you the shape and the pattern without adding a competing colour. On a console in a hallway, a sideboard in a dining room or a broad side table beside a sofa, the two lamps put out enough warm light to let you switch the ceiling light off in the evening. It suits period houses and traditional rooms, and it works just as well as the single decorative piece in a plain modern scheme.
Each shade is assembled by hand from individual pieces of glass, so the colour placement shifts slightly between lamps and no two are quite the same. The base carries a warm finish that stays behind the glass rather than drawing attention. Dust the shade with a dry soft cloth once the bulbs are cool, wipe marks with a barely damp cloth, and keep polish and solvents away from the leaded seams; wipe the base dry rather than leaving it damp. This one is not rated for dimming. It is IP20 for dry indoor rooms and a Class 1 earthed fitting. A small and a mini Alderworth table lamp run alongside it.

Frequently Asked
What is on the shade?
The dragonfly motif, worked in cut pieces of beige and cream glass leaded into a metal frame in the Tiffany-style method. The pattern varies a little between lamps because each shade is assembled by hand.
How much surface does it need?
The shade is 410mm across and the lamp stands 555mm tall, so a console, sideboard or side table with at least 400mm of depth suits it best.
How many bulbs does it take?
Two E27 screw bulbs in a GLS shape, up to 60W each, not supplied. Fit both the same, and warm white brings out the softer tones in the glass.
How do I clean it?
Switch off and let the bulbs cool, then dust with a dry soft cloth or soft brush. A barely damp cloth lifts marks; dry straight away and keep sprays and solvents off the leading.
Is it dimmable?
No, this lamp is not rated for dimming. Standard switching is the way to run it, and a lower wattage warm bulb gives a softer light if you want one.
How does it compare with the small size?
Both stand 555mm tall, but this shade is 410mm across against 300mm on the small, so it reads wider and spreads light over more of a room.
