Description

The Alderworth medium pendant hangs a 410mm Tiffany-style shade with the dragonfly motif set into leaded glass in blue. Individual pieces of cut glass are leaded into a metal frame, the wings reading clearly against the ground colour, and the downward shape puts a defined pool of light below with a warm glow at the sides. Three E27 GLS bulbs up to 60W each give it a good amount of output for its size. The drop adjusts from 470mm to 1380mm and it weighs 3.1kg, with bulbs bought separately.

This is a versatile size for a ceiling light: we see it over a kitchen island, a breakfast bar or a small dining table, and the long adjustable drop makes it equally at home in a hallway or a stairwell. Three lamps mean it can serve as the only light in a modest room, and it is dimmable, so you can run it bright while cooking and low in the evening. Blue glass reads cooler than the amber option, which makes it a good match for rooms with grey, green or off-white walls.

Each shade is put together by hand, piece by piece, so the colour placement shifts slightly between shades and no two are identical. The gallery, chain and ceiling plate carry a warm finish that sits behind the glass. Dust with a dry soft cloth once the bulbs are cool, and lift marks with a barely damp cloth, keeping polish and solvents away from the leaded seams. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms and is a Class 1 fitting, so it needs an earth at the ceiling. A larger Alderworth pendant, table lamps and a wall light share the same glass.
