Description

The Alderworth large semi flush widens the blue Tiffany-style leaded shade to 500mm while keeping the same shallow 315mm projection below the ceiling. The dragonfly motif runs across the glass, its outstretched wings shaped by the leading rather than applied to the surface. Three E27 lampholders sit inside, each taking an LED bulb of up to 10W, and the fitting weighs 4.2kg. Bulbs are not included, so the warmth of the light and the depth of the blue are yours to balance.

At half a metre across this is the version for a larger room that still cannot take a pendant: a wide landing, a generous bedroom, a study or a sitting room with a low ceiling. The blue glass reads calm and cool in daylight, then warms as soon as the bulbs are on, which suits rooms used mainly in the evening. It works well in period houses and in coastal or country schemes where blue already appears in paint, tiling or textiles. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

Coloured glass pieces are set into soldered metal seams and carried on a metal frame, which is where the weight and the solid feel come from. Dust with a dry soft cloth, lift marks with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately, and keep sprays and abrasive creams away from the leading. The fitting is Class 1 and needs an earthed supply at the ceiling, and it dims with a compatible dimmer switch and dimmable bulbs. The smaller Alderworth semi flush suits tighter rooms, and an Alderworth floor lamp and wall light continue the range.
