Description

The Alderworth large pendant is a three light ceiling light, 500mm across, with a domed Tiffany-style shade in blue leaded glass. The pattern is built around the dragonfly motif, with outstretched dragonfly wings drawn in slim panels of glass against a deeper blue ground. The drop adjusts between 545mm and 1380mm, so the shade can hang close under a high ceiling or low over a table. It takes three 60W E27 GLS bulbs, supplied separately, and runs on a dimmer if you fit dimmable bulbs.

At half a metre wide this is a room light, best centred over a dining table, in a bay windowed sitting room, or in a hallway with height to spare. Blue glass reads cooler by day and much warmer once the lamps are on, which makes it a good fit for rooms with painted panelling, stained joinery or a strong rug to pick up. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms or covered porches.

Every panel is cut and leaded on its own, then soldered into a metal frame, so the colour and the line of the seams differ a little between shades. The fitting weighs 4.2kg, which is comfortable for a joist or a rated ceiling anchor, and it is Class 1, so it needs an earth at the rose and we would leave installation to a qualified electrician. Dust with a dry, soft cloth, use a barely damp cloth for marks, and keep sprays off the solder. Other Alderworth colourways are available, along with flush ceiling lights and inverted pendants in the same pattern.
